By Allison Kettlewell of @kettlewellcollection thr By Allison Kettlewell of @kettlewellcollection three distinctively detailed designs: Wallace, Derby & Azami
These three textiles continue their tradition of richly crafted fabrics, offered in a range of nuanced, earthy color ways. Thoughtfully designed with depth and character, each fabric brings its own voice and versatility.

Inspired by traditional overshot blankets, Wallace pays homage to centuries of traditional textiles.

Derby is a woven celebration of craft and character, featuring a signature broken-stripe patchwork

Azami is printed on a 100% linen ground to provide the perfect canvas for a design inspired by the artistry of vintage batik fabrics.

Aesthetic, an original line of furniture, lighting, and mirrors by Richard Johnson, seamlessly integrates elements of traditional design with the conventions of modern living.

What makes Aesthetic fresh and original is the stylistic way Johnson transcribes the details of past works into modern forms, disconnecting a specific element from a building, a cabinet, or a found object, and re-establishing it in a contemporary context. It is the refined process of transforming a selected element, rather than reproducing a piece in its entirety, that keeps the item from becoming overly specific, allowing it to be interpreted rather than identified. The precise era remains ambiguous, timeless.

The Aesthetic collection is all handcrafted in the USA by California artisans, some second- and third-generation cabinetmakers, finishers, and upholsterers; the art of craftsmanship is passed down generation to generation. All of the lumber is hand-selected, shaped, planed, and assembled locally. All finishes are mixed and hand-applied. The furniture is made per order, each piece is made specifically for the intended receiver, maybe this is you.

Architectural patterns like @adelphipaperhangings Architectural patterns like @adelphipaperhangings ‘Coffered Rosette’, which today might seem to be intended for a ceiling, were, in the 19th century, typically used as a sidewall paper for a large public space, such as a hall or stairway.

The original document for Adelphi’s reproduction of this pattern was found covering the lid of a well-used wooden box. At first look the colors appeared to be a soft salmon and dull red around the rosette, but after close examination it turned out to be a very bright pink and an equally confident red. These colors are very similar to those in the Anthemion Border, which dates from approximately the same period.

Reproduction of the pattern was commissioned by the Dumbarton House, Washington, DC. 💚 Discover Inside JR NY
