JR Artisan Spotlight

Allan Knight

CEO

What inspires you?

Nature, Organic Threads, All forms of Architecture, Fashion, and a good dose of Necessity. Nothing drives artistry and design like a client’s needs or something missing in the marketplace.

Describe your work in 5 words or less:

Emotional, Organic, Colorful, No Limits

How did you get your start in the industry:

Working for designers in Junior High School in Midland, Texas, Interiors Firm.

What’s makes your brand stand out from the rest:

This comes from purveying great one-of-a-kind artifacts, antiques, and art, then working with our own extensive line of furnishings, looking through the lines we represent in our Dallas Showroom, then the things we do not have, we often create. This has given us an extensive repertoire, as seen on our website, and these things are my passion. I still think some of my best products were designed 40 or so years ago……We only make furnishings and lighting that lend to Comfort, Glamour, and Warmth all rolled into one, with a very no-expense-spared application of raw materials and finishing touches. Many of our furnishings are in the hands of third-generation ownership, which is part of the generational equity.

Describe your studio/workspace:

I have been very fortunate to work in our showroom in Dallas, which has workrooms and a warehouse attached. There is something to be said for various support staff, including workrooms, at your fingertips. Cearan my other half and partner share a working space, where he handles the creation of our image, Cataloging, Advertising, Design Projects, Web Sites Etc…. I use the office as a gathering space for current line projects for the side of the furnishings; anything that is needed for that or design projects will be in that room, with a big pin-up wall and meeting spaces. Depending on what’s going on, it can be neat or a disaster. But there are always fun things in our office.

Are you experimenting with any new techniques, mediums, colors, or aesthetics?

Product launches will include more complicated lighting with Many More components of great contrast, including exotic Textiles from one of our wonderful represented lines… Fashion oriented. Other items will include lighting and elements in furnishings, including lighting, which takes on Exotic Edges. And, as always, you can expect a fairly good dose of color and contrast…..
