All about Eve
Eve Ashcraft is a rare commodity in the design world, an expert on everything to do with color. A painter by training with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, Ashcraft approaches color with an artist’s eye coupled with a keen sense of light and context. Her holistic approach consistently marries colors to spaces, forms, and materials as well as to her clients’ sensibilities. For more than 30 years her creative vision and rigorous approach has addressed color issues as small as the cover typeface for Richard Avedon’s books to architectural and wayfinding colors for Moynihan Train Hall. She has created paint lines for Martha Stewart, Ralph Lauren and Domingue Finishes, published “The Right Color”, a book on how and why to use color. Aside from the many interior designers and architects she works with, she has consulted with The Urban Electric Co., The Art Institute of Chicago, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Gladstone Gallery and many private clients. Collaborating with Karen Robert at Aux Abris on her latest wallpaper collection, “Curious Eve”, is her most recent adventure.

Inspiration
When Karen Robert invited me to collaborate on a new wallpaper collection for her company, Aux Abris, I was thrilled by the prospect. In Karen, I found a kindred spirit—someone whose visual vocabulary overlapped with my own to an astonishing degree. We quickly discovered that we had collected many of the same images over the years and shared a deep affection for the same decorative themes and motifs. Our working methods aligned just as naturally: we weren’t afraid to pivot if we ran aground when testing out ideas. As we shaped our collaboration, we arrived at a magical intersection where multiple sources of inspiration converged: Art Nouveau, Art Deco, the Vienna Secession, Japanese landscape painting, and a reverence for the natural world—peppered with a touch of eccentricity. This exceptional confluence became the genesis of The Curious Eve Collection.
