Woodland Walk

“I’m thrilled to introduce you to our AW25 collection, Woodland Walk. It’s a wonderful, comprehensive collection of paper-based and grasscloth wallcoverings and three new fabrics. The designs celebrate the joy I find in walks in the English countryside, a point of inspiration for many of the drawings and paintings that encapsulate the final collection.” – Richard Smith, Founder & Creative Director, Madeaux

New Collection – Woodland Walk

Immerse yourself in the English countryside with Madeaux’s latest collection of fabrics and wallcoverings: Woodland Walk.

It is a translation of Richard Smith’s nature-inspired paintings and sketches, celebrating the colors, fauna, and flora of the countryside. In addition to seven brand new designs, they have introduced updated colorways and wallpaper translations of classic Madeaux prints, including fresh new colors of ‘Aviary’, a grasscloth rendition of ‘Ziggery’, and two updated neutrals of Madeaux’s classic stripe ‘Audrey Grasscloth’.

Sylvan Grasscloth
01 Pine

Horizontal paths of trees work across this green-toned design inspired by Richard Smith’s love of English woodlands. Printed here on a metallic grasscloth as a grander alternative to the smaller scale “Woodland Walk”, the textured substrate brings gravitas to the large scale of the design.

Starboard Non-Woven
03 Denim

A classic paint effect emulating the grain of wooden panelling is combined with a trellis pattern of stencilled stars in Starboard. The strié textured background adds an almost three-dimensional effect to the pattern and gives the design a rustic charm.

Tempest Non-Woven
03 Lagoon Blue

A refreshingly modern take on a scrolling design motif, Tempest is the ideal wallpaper for use as a background – the colour shading from the original watercolour artwork has been accentuated to create the perfect colour carrier and the movement within the organic shapes would add a soft element to an interior space.

Aviary Non-Woven
08 Earth Tones

Our popular Aviary design has been reimagined in two refreshing colourways: ‘Green’, an uplifting take on this classic, with its combination of cool greys, variety of greens and a flash of golden yellow, and ‘Earth Tones’, inspired by the rich earthy tones used across our SS25 Glencoe collection, to bring to mind the landscape and flora of the Scottish moors.

Ogive Grasscloth
03 Clay

Taking its form from a classic Gothic arch, the motifs of the Ogive fall into an easy and classic repeat. The watercolor rendering of the artwork brings extra interest to this airy and straightforward design on a grasscloth ground.

Sylvan Non-Woven
01 Spring

A smaller-scale alternative to ‘Sylvan Grasscloth‘ inspired by trees in Richard Smith’s local countryside. Printed here on paper with a strié ground to add a texture to the design, creating a gorgeous backdrop for layering or a standout pattern on its own.

Poppyfield Non-Woven
01 Paprika

Inspired by an Indian wall painting of stylised flowers, Richard Smith painted the floral bouquets of Poppyfield with an antiqued effect to form a softer, organic rendition of the inspiration. With its clever step repeat, the motifs form a natural rhythm as they fall across the design – available in classic Paprika tones with green and a soft Pale Ocean.

Fresco Plaid Non-Woven
03 Sienna

A pared-back painterly check offers a textured effect in this deceptively complex yet usable design. Inspired by the fresco technique of painting on wet plaster, where color pigment is absorbed into the surface of the wall to give an ethereal effect. We have replicated this look here, adding fine lines of an unexpected color to keep it fresh.

Ziggary Grasscloth Non-Woven
05 Umber

This grasscloth wallcovering is a standout horizontal zigzag taken from our much-loved Ziggery fabric. Drawn initially from seventeenth-century flame stitch documents, the design motif, despite its classic European inspiration, also recalls the look of a handcrafted ikat from Southeast Asia.

Glencoe Grasscloth
01 Moonstone

A grasscloth wallcovering rendition of our luxurious wool-rich paisley, inspired by a nineteenth-century document typical of the jacquard woven shawls made in Scotland in the second half of the nineteenth century. We love the combination of colors across the three wallcoverings – Moonstone, Sandstone, and Amethyst.

Burlington Grasscloth
05 Old Gold

A hand-painted modern take on a moiré, combining a vertical strié that evokes the woodgrain of a tree. The grasscloth ground brings the motif up to date, offering a modern feel to a classic design, available in five inspiring colorways.

Harebell Non-Woven
02 Blue Grass

A wallpaper version of our Harebell fabric, showing a stylized rendering of an espaliered shrub climbing a wall. The cluster informed the design of small bell-shaped flowers of the Scottish bluebell. We love how the wallpaper adaptation showcases the watercolor artwork with its twist of shade within the two colorways.

Blanket Stripe Grasscloth
01 Seacloud

Painted from the stripes of our popular wool fabric, Jajim, a colorful horizontal weave inspired by traditional Persian rugs. We have updated the layout and spacing to feature striped grasscloth, offered in two sumptuous colorways. The stripes run vertically in this wallcovering adaptation, creating the perfect backdrop for layering in a chic and sophisticated scheme.

Saltmarsh Woven
03 Marmalade

A beautifully soft fabric with spectacular performance to bring depth and texture to any piece of upholstery. Shown here on the sofa. The look and feel of the bouclé yarn contrasts with the color of the background warp in a most unusual and usable way.
